xThe enormous popularity of any artist is a guarantee that they will be misunderstood. People know ostensibly more about "Nineteen Eighty-Four" than they actually do. This book is an attempt to restore some balance by explaining what Orwell's novel is really about, the circumstances of its writing, and how it has changed the world over the past seventy years since its author's passing. Certainly, the meaning of any work of art is not limited to the intentions of its creator, but in our case, Orwell's intentions - which have often been distorted and neglected - deserve reconsideration if we are to understand the book as a book, not just an inexhaustible source of useful popular sarcastic situations. It is both a work of art and a means of understanding the world. This, then, is the story of the book "Nineteen Eighty-Four". Many biographies of George Orwell have been written, and some academic studies have been conducted on the intellectual context of his book, but no attempt has ever been made to combine the two into a single narrative, while also exploring the book's evolution. I am primarily interested in Orwell's life as a means of shedding light on the experiences and ideas that became his personal nightmare, in which everything he valued was systematically destroyed: honesty, integrity, justice, memory, history, transparency, privacy, common sense, rationality, England, and love. I will trace Orwell's path through the bombing of London, the Home Guard, the BBC, cultural London, and war-torn Europe, all the way to the Isle of Jura where he finally wrote his novel, in order to dismantle the myth that "Nineteen Eighty-Four" was a long cry of despair from a lonely, dying man unable to face the future. I want to draw attention to what he was really thinking, and how he came to think it.

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly.
